The Blue Pool Nature Reserve & Tearooms, located just a 10 minute drive from Wareham on the Isle of Purbeck, offers a great day out for visitors of all ages. Set across more than 30 acres, discover scenic paths and walkways, including the UK’s longest rope bridge, stretching an impressive 50 metres.
There's also an enchanting woodland trail to discover beautifully crafted doors and the magical creatures they belong to, along with an adventure play area for young explorers. The vintage tearooms are a popular stop, especially for those who appreciate Art Deco design, serving teas, coffees, cakes, light lunches and traditional afternoon tea with homemade scones. Relax on the terrace with views across The Blue Pool or indoors by the fireplace.
The site also includes a gift shop selling locally sourced souvenirs, Purbeck ice cream, and an outdoor plant centre.
Dating back to the 17th century, The Blue Pool was originally a clay mining pit. Over time, it filled with rainwater, and its distinctive colour—caused by light diffraction from clay particles—changes depending on the sunlight. Since opening to the public in 1935, it's become a well-known visitor attraction. The Nature Reserve is also designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its diverse plant and animal life.
Seasonal events take place throughout the year, including an Easter trail, outdoor cinema screenings, a Santa experience, and a winter light trail. Check the website for current opening times and event details.
